Health Research Design Expert Invited to Give Short Course at University of Alabama at Birmingham

Kelli Komro, Ph.D. and professor in the Department of Health Outcomes and Policy, has been invited to speak on the theory and concepts of natural experiments as part of a five-day short course in “Strengthening Causal Inference in Behavioral Obesity Research” at the University of Alabama at Birmingham July 20 through July 24, 2015.

“The growing obesity epidemic demands the application of complex interventions and research design methods to get at the root of the problem and to begin to make much-needed progress,” said Komro, who is also the associate director of the Institute for Child Health Policy at the University of Florida. “This course is meant to expose scientists to the fundamentals of performing rigorous studies that examine the effectiveness of preventive and clinical interventions, and it is gratifying to be asked to inform more scientists in how to execute sophisticated studies in the real world.”

Applications for the short course are due February 27, 2015, and some travel scholarships are available for young investigators. For more information on the short course, including how to apply, click here.
