HOP Faculty Member Attends mHTI Workshop

François Modave, PhD

François Modave, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Health Outcomes & Policy, was selected to attend the 2015 mHealth Training Institute, an interdisciplinary conference with 30 participants from the behavioral and social sciences; health science specialties; biological, physical or earth sciences; computational science and mathematics; and engineering. The workshop was held at the University of California- Los Angeles on August 24-28.

The institute works to bring together researchers from various fields to further the creation of mobile technologies for the benefit of health care as a whole, according to its website. Mobile technology holds significant opportunities for medical research and patient care; however, in its current state, mobile health technologies are developed under specific disciplines with little to no dialogue in between, making the process very inefficient.

“The mHTI workshop provided a fantastic venue for biomedical and health care professionals,” Modave said. “With invited speakers who are innovative leaders in mHealth, the training workshop provided me with a variety of perspectives on building mHealth tools: implementation, underlying science, use in a clinical setting, assessment, etc. It was also very useful to begin what I hope become fruitful collaborations with some of the participants and speakers.”
