Biomedical Informatics M.S. Degree Approved

The Department of Health Outcomes & Policy’s M.S. in Medical Sciences with a concentration in Biomedical Informatics was approved by UF on November 19. The interdisciplinary program features courses from across the UF campus to familiarize students with the foundational concepts they need for the growing field of biomedical informatics. The goal is to begin recruiting students for Fall 2016 enrollment next semester for the 36 credit, on-campus program.

“When I arrived here a year and a half ago, UF had no graduate programs to offer in the field of biomedical informatics. Now, I am pleased that we offer both a certificate specializing in biomedical informatics and an M.S. that will serve the needs of not only graduate students in health outcomes and policy but faculty, staff, and students across UF and the state of Florida,” said Bill Hogan, M.D., M.S., professor of health outcomes and policy and director of the biomedical informatics program at the UF CTSI. “The M.S. builds on the course structure of the graduate certificate and adds coursework in database management, mathematics for intelligent systems, and biomedical imaging informatics, giving students a robust practical and academic grounding in the field.”
