HOP Faculty Member Presents Paper at AMIA Conference

Amanda HicksAmanda Hicks, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Health Outcomes & Policy, presented a paper at the American Medical Informatics Association’s 2015 Annual Symposium. The conference was held from November 14-18 in San Francisco, California.

Hicks is the first author of the paper “An Analysis of WordNet’s Coverage of Gender identity Using Twitter and The National Transgender Discrimination Survey.” Coauthors include Jiang Bian, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Health Outcomes & Policy; Christiane Fellbaum, Ph.D., senior research scholar at Princeton University; and Michael Rutherford, M.S., applications systems analyst at the University of Arkansas.

“AMIA is the largest forum for bioinformaticians nationwide and draws a wide variety of researchers from across this diverse field,” Hicks said. “It was exciting to share with them some of the unique research questions and methodological advances our team is pioneering at UF and to make connections with informaticians with an array of perspectives who are interested in addressing similar health disparities.”
